Brian Blackman
Senior Associate
Brian B. Blackman is a Senior Associate at One Legal Caribbean, practising from the firm's Barbados office. He brings a specialist focus in banking and finance, secured lending, real estate and corporate transactions, areas in which he has built a sustained track record advising international and regional financial institutions on some of the Caribbean’s most complex transactional mandates.
Brian holds a Bachelor of Laws with Upper Second Class Honours from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, and a Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago. He was Head Boy at Harrison College, one of Barbados' premier academic institutions, and a winner of the Barbados International Business Association Oratorical Competition.
With over six years of post-admission experience across regional and international commercial law firms, Brian has developed deep expertise at the intersection of finance law and commercial practice. Most recently, he advised international banks on ship mortgage financing transactions, multi-million-dollar corporate financing involving Barbadian entities, and the structuring and perfection of security packages including debentures, share charges, and ancillary security instruments.
Earlier in his career, Brian spent over three years at a regional firm, where he led and closed over 100 real estate transactions, advised a high volume of clients on the acquisition and disposal of property in Barbados, and liaised with financial institutions and regulatory authorities on compliance with applicable property laws. He also advised clients on estate planning and the administration of estates, including succession and tax considerations. This breadth of experience across both transactional finance and property law gives Brian a commercially grounded perspective that is rare at six years call to the Barbados Bar.
Brian brings deep transactional experience in banking, finance, and real estate, a strong track record with major regional and international financial institutions, and a commercially focused approach to the One Legal Caribbean team.
